WHAT ARE PRETTY GIRL POSTCARDS?
These “FUNNY FABULOUS FASHIONISTAS” are 4” x 6” glossy postcards featuring illustrations of women from 18th Century French Fashion Plates. If you are not familiar with the term “fashion plates”, they are illustrations showing the prevailing fashions of the day. And these particular fashion plates are from the 18th Century.
Back in the late 1700's, there were no such things as catalogs, so artists would sell their services to dress shops and draw illustrations of the dresses that the dressmaker could make for their upper-class customers who came into the shop, and they could pick their latest frock they want made from the illustrations.
