Re: A Pause for Pretty Girl Postcards
I’m very sorry to say that I will be taking a break from accepting any new orders for the foreseeable future due to the insurmountable problems I am having with the USPS First Class Mail Delivery Service.
Please Note: I will remain open to fulfill any and all existing orders that have been made up until midnight January 4, 2021, at which time I will put my Etsy shop, Pretty Girl Postcards, “on vacation”. However, if you placed an order with us before January 4, 2021, and have any problems whatsoever, please know that I will be available to help and answer any and all of your questions. You can contact me through Etsy Messaging or my email – PrettyGirlPostcards2@gmail.com.
The problems I have encountered since early December 2020 with my orders not being delivered has caused me to take this action. I have been in business with Etsy selling greeting cards, postcards, and magnets off and on since 2010. Up until last month, I have had very few, if any, problems with my product being delivered. Whereas in the past I had 1-2 undelivered orders per year, in the past month I have had nearly 20 orders that have gone missing. To me, that is unacceptable.
After calling the Etsy Help Desk, I was informed that the USPS uses companies such as Pitney Bowes, a private shipper, to deliver their First Class Mail (letters and ‘flats’) to a USPS facility closer to its final destination. (Now, this is going to get weird, so stay with me, folks…) So, the USPS mail carrier picks up your letter-sized envelope containing your postcards from my mailbox. They take it to their USPS post office where it is put in a pile to be picked up by Pitney Bowes Delivery Service, who then takes your letter to the Pitney Bowes sorting facility where it is put in another pile with other First Class Mail to be delivered to USPS post offices closer to your destination (not to you, but to a USPS post office near you), where it is then sorted again by the USPS and put in a pile to be delivered to you. And that is why it takes 2-4 weeks to get to you instead of 2-4 days, as it did in the past. This, evidently, is The New Reality. This New Reality has very nearly destroyed my business model, rendering my product effectively “undeliverable”.
So I will be putting my Etsy shop “on vacation” for the next 30-60 days to work on ideas of how to fix this situation (that is if it can be fixed). Please check back with us to see when (and if) Pretty Girl Postcards will be returning.
